What is this resource?This four-page article from the National Association of School Psychologists focuses on information principals need to know to make quality data-based decisions. The article separates different types of data (summative versus formative), describes how to promote data-driven conversations, suggests how principals can identify data experts, outlines how to use data to improve instruction, and concludes with a table of 10 steps to improving the use and value of data.

Why is it valuable?The article is specifically written for principals. By narrowing the audience, the authors are able to directly address data-based decision making issues principals face when they need to make changes in their schools.
